Eight weeks before:
- Organise your mortgage and solicitor
- Get house surveys done
- Research the area to make the necessary preparations (may involve changing your children’s schools, applying for new jobs, sorting out your new commute)
- Search and compare home insurance

- Book removal companies
- Research self-storage facilities if you’re in-between homes or downsizing
- Start organising and decluttering your household items
- Make a list of everything you have to pack

- Finalise any bookings for removals/storage
- Start asking relatives/friends if you need extra help

Packing for your house move
A week before:
- Pack up boxes according to room
- Label every box
- Get all of your keys together, remember any spares
- Eat up everything in the fridge and freezer, then defrost them both before leaving
- Contact the post office to arrange for any mail to be redirected
Moving day list:
- Charge up your mobile and pack up any final items
- Make an overnight/essentials bag for anything you’ll need in the morning
- Final meter readings and take a picture of your meters so you have proof
- Remove all bedding and pack it up to take to the new house
- Pack up the car
- Close all the windows
- Switch everything off
- Do a final check
- Make sure you have copies of all paperwork handy
